Paths to Peace

            The Interfaith Paths to Peace

The first Interfaith Paths to Peace Service in Southern Indiana was held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. It included guests speakers from many faiths and backgrounds.

The service lasted about one hour and was followed by a reception at which the public had the opportunity to meet and talk with representatives of many of the world’s great religions.

The participants in the celebration included representatives of Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, the Baha’i faith, Buddhism, the Quakers, Unitarians, Native American religion, Unity Church , and a number of Christian Churches.

The event also included readings, prayers, chanting and music. Presentations were made in English as well as Hebrew, Arabic, Sanskrit, and Vietnamese
Music for the service featured the Native American flute music of Anthony Redfeather Nava, choral presentations by the choir of St. Paul's, and additional music from SOS (Same Ol' Soloists)

Peace was the theme of this first ever interfaith prayer service for peace in southern Indiana.. According to Terry Taylor of Interfaith Paths to Peace and co-director of this year's event, "At a time when the United States is deeply involved in armed conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan and many nations in the world are at war, there is perhaps no greater purpose than prayers for peace" Taylor also indicated that the service will help those attending to gain a deeper understanding of how the concepts of peace and justice are viewed in many of the world's great religions.
