Outreach Program

                               Shepards Kitchen Floyd County

Shepherd's Kitchen has been a part of the New Albany Community Soup Kitchens since the early 1990's.Originally, there were 5 downtown church sites with several church co-sponsors from the surrounding area. There are now 7 downtown sites serving meals 7 days a week. The sites are

St. Mary's Catholic Church

Silver Street UMC
West Main Street UMC
The Hour of Power
Centenary UMC
St. Mark's Church of Christ
St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Our co-sponsor is
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church

We serve from 45 to 65 people every Friday night at 6:00 PM.

Meals are served at 6:00 PM each week night and early afternoon meals are served on the weekends.
Jeffersonville has a Community Soup Kitchen that serves 175 to 200 every week day at noon.
Many Floyd County churches participate in this ministry as well as our downtown sites.
There are also some independent churches' in New Albany that serve meals.

St. Paul's always needs volunteers to:  Cook (shift is from 3:30 to 6:00 PM on Friday plus shopping for your meal supplies),  Dinning room set up, coffee and juice prep (4:00 to 5:00 PM Friday.)  Serve the meal and clean up (shift from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.)

Bake or provide dessert for a meal. (50 to 60 servings)

Any of the above tasks are on a rotating 6 week schedule. The cooking teams purchase bulk items from local discount groceries and wholesale outlets. Some bulk items are donated by community organizations or individuals. For more information about the local soup kitchens and food pantry's or to sign up to help with St. Paul's Kitchen contact the Church Office. Help is always needed.
